  • A Gaza War Full of Traps and Trickery – NYTimes.com

    January 11th, 2009 [General, War & Peace]

A Gaza War Full of Traps and Trickery – NYTimes.com.

Hamas, with training from Iran and Hezbollah, has used the last two years to turn Gaza into a deadly maze of tunnels, booby traps and sophisticated roadside bombs. Weapons are hidden in mosques, schoolyards and civilian houses, and the leadership’s war room is a bunker beneath Gaza’s largest hospital, Israeli intelligence officials say.

No wonder Hamas was vocally inviting a ground incursion! There’s also a video of a Hamas fighter running away from Israeli soldiers and grabbing a child who was standing nearby, dragging him by his shirt as a human shield. From the reports I’ve heard, this is a pretty common tactic.

U.S. Rejected Aid for Israeli Raid on Iranian Nuclear Site – NYTimes.com.

Uh… yeah. Not sure it would have been wise for Israel to strike Iran, but this pretty much confirms what we’ve suspected all along… Iran ain’t buildin’ no electricity plant. They’re building a weapon. And gee, I wonder who will be on the receiving end?

    Children of Hamas

    January 9th, 2009 [General, War & Peace]

    Children of Hamas.

To be fair, these are not all recent pictures. Some of them are a few years old. Of course, others are missing from the montage. Then again, there are a million montages just like this one, because there is so much documentary evidence that these children are being brainwashed to hate and to kill. One children’s show even finished its last episode with its host, a little girl, telling its viewers that the main character had been slaughtered by the Zionist pigs, and they should go avenge his death.

Hamas targets schools, world is blind, deaf, and dumb on topic

    January 8th, 2009 [General, War & Peace]

Hamas targets schools, world is blind, deaf, and dumb on topic.

Hamas deliberately targets Israeli schools. Palestinian terrorists deliberately time their attacks for when children are walking to or from school. There has never been an outcry from any organization that normal protests human rights violations. There have been no accusations of war crimes by Hamas. There has been, in fact, utter silence from the usual suspects. Israel schools are being targeted, and yet, that gets shrugged off by everyone but Israelis.

Riots erupt in Oakland after slain father laid to rest – CNN.com.

The cops had the guy face down on the ground and one held him down while the other shot him in the back. Aren’t we glad the police are here to protect us?

Some are speculating that the cop might have mistaken his gun for a Taser. Yeah, right. Trained cops don’t know the difference between a gun and a Taser? Bullshit. In any case, does it make it any better if it was a Taser? I mean, yeah, it would be better because the guy would still be alive, but is it any less of an excuse? Don’t police know how to do anything without a Taser these days?!

Hamas does the same thing. Israel returns fire to the site where the rocket was launched… and boom, there goes a mosque, or a school, or a hospital.

That said, I’m sure you can just as easily find hard-line Israelis saying atrocious things about Palestinians. This conflict runs deeper than one over land and nationalism. It’s a battle over Grandpa Abe’s estate, and it’s completely irreconcilable as long as there are still people unwilling to compromise at all. Unfortunately all of those people happen to be on one side of the equation.

Exchanges of fire mar 3-hour truce in Gaza – CNN.com

    January 7th, 2009 [General, War & Peace]

Exchanges of fire mar 3-hour truce in Gaza – CNN.com.

    Typical.

A planned three-hour lull in Israel’s assault on Gaza was marred by sporadic attacks by Hamas militants and retaliatory fire from Israeli forces.

EVERY cease fire results in Hamas launching rockets and Israel striking in retaliation. Why should the fact that humanitarian aid is on the line make any difference to Hamas? They don’t want aid; they want high death tolls.

YouTube – Mortar Bombs Shot from UN School in Gaza 29 Oct. 2007

January 6th, 2009 [General, War & Peace, YouTube]

People think Israel is posting videos of their attacks on Gaza to somehow brag about their violent response. This video shows another story – this is why Israel really posts videos – so the world can see the truth. Hamas literally stores its weapons in and launches rockets from the doorsteps of elementary schools, and then blames Israel when it strikes back against the launch points. This has happened several times over the past few days – Israel is catching flak for shelling schools where Hamas attackers are launching missiles (I realize this is an older video – it just goes to show you how long Hamas has been using schools as launch pads, and how long Israel has been restraining itself against striking back).

Positions are hardening. A senior Hamas official today made greater threats, saying Israelis “legitimize the killing of their people all over the world when they killed our people.”

I have no doubt that he’s talking about the massacre in Mumbai, and other attacks on Jewish centers around the world in recent years – attacks many people haven’t heard about because they are simply not reported adequately. This guy isn’t talking about Israelis – he’s talking about Jews. And there you have it – proof that Hamas and other extremists do not distinguish between Israel and the Jewish people as whole, and when they say they will wipe the Zionists from the earth and drive the Jews into the sea, what they mean is what they’ve said in the past – they want to finish what Hitler started. Anti-Zionism is not anti-Israel – it is anti-JEW.

Doctor in Gaza: Patients ‘lying everywhere’ – CNN.com

    January 5th, 2009 [General, War & Peace]

Doctor in Gaza: Patients ‘lying everywhere’ – CNN.com.

I like how they show injured Palestinian children but never injured Israeli children. Does the world think Israeli children haven’t died at Hamas’s hands? Does the world think Hamas hasn’t tried its best to kill innocent Israeli children? A rocket hit a kindergarten classroom today in southern Israel. Thank god the school was closed due to the threat. That’s the thing – Israel takes measures to protect its children, while Hamas doesn’t seem to care if its rockets kills even its OWN children. Where is the anger and lamentation over the deaths of THESE girls? Is it only tragic when Israel is to “blame”?

THE SWASH ZONE on Hamas and Israel

    January 5th, 2009 [General, War & Peace]

    THE SWASH ZONE:

Of course the hospitals and schools and even the mosques are ammunition dumps and launching pads for the thousands and thousands of missiles Hamas has launched and is launching indiscriminately into Southern Israel for the very purpose of provoking an attack which, seeing as they are hiding in schools and hospitals and apartment houses would generate the kind of inadvertent martyrdom Hamas, in its self-righteous cowardice, likes to assign to innocent people.

    No kidding. 😛

    Kawasaki disease? Really?

I guarantee you we’ll find out more about this kid’s medical condition, and it won’t be pretty. Scientologists ignore a LOT of developmental disabilities, including autism, which according to the buzz was the young Travolta’s true developmental disability. If this is true, then Travolta and Preston are essentially responsible for their son’s death, since they failed to provide him with the treatment, care and supervision that he needed.

List of rocket and mortar attacks in Israel in 2008.

So like… just how many are they expected to tolerate before retaliation is finally allowed? Bear in mind that Israel is TINY – not much larger than Riverside County, or about 1/3 – 1/2 the size of San Bernardino County. It’s not a large country. So tell me – how many rockets does this tiny country less than half the size of the fucking 909 have to put up with before it’s allowed to fight back without people accusing it of being a big bad imperialist?

‘Safest’ seat remarks gets Muslim family kicked off plane – CNN.com

‘Safest’ seat remarks gets Muslim family kicked off plane – CNN.com.

Oh please. The airline can’t possibly believe it behaved appropriately, particularly since even the freakin’ FBI told them everything was fine. If a white family was discussing the safest place to sit on an airplane, people would just chuckle and think they were a bit paranoid and plane-phobic. A Muslim family discusses the safest place to sit on an airplane, and suddenly they’re terrorists? God forbid people should just be a little freaked out about hurtling hundreds of miles per hour through the sky in a giant hunk of metal?

Besides, not to be crude, but how often do terrorist hijackers worry about the safest place for them to sit on a plane they’re going to crash?

The comments on this are hilarious. The article, whatever, but the comments… people are so freaking uptight. I mean, nobody says you have to go do these things in public, or think it’s cute or funny to burp your spouse’s name or blow your nose at the dinner table or something – but I think this is definitely a debate where the term “anal retentive” comes in really handy…

Israelis strike homes of 2 top Hamas figures; at least 1 killed – CNN.com

Israelis strike homes of 2 top Hamas figures; at least 1 killed – CNN.com.

Rayan had urged Gazans not to abandon their homes during the Israeli air attacks, even if they received threats to evacuate, Arab media reported.

Well isn’t that nice. Israel goes out of its way to warn Gaza civilians of impending strikes so as to reduce the loss of life, and this Hamas leader essentially goes, “No, no, stay in your house. You know, so we can blame Israel when you die in the airstrike…”

Who’s 2008’s Homo Hero of the Year? / Queerty

January 1st, 2009 [Civil Rights, General]

Who’s 2008’s Homo Hero of the Year? / Queerty.

As one of the protesters, I personally saw the changes in the way the LAPD treated the crowds. Following a march in Silver Lake through mostly empty corporate buildings, a group of 300 or so protesters, including your editor, felt that protesting was more about taking your message to everyday people than preaching to the choir and so left the area and marched on Hollywood. The police responded quickly and blocked the advancing path of protesters. For a few minutes, the police stood shoulder-to-shoulder, inches away from a crowd shouting to let them pass.

And then a call came. Everyone could tell something had changed as the police started to relax. An officer on a bullhorn shouted, “We’re going to let you march. We just need to set up the route. We thank you for your cooperation.” There was no doubt who ordered the go-ahead: It was LAPD Chief William Bratton.

In that moment, in the eyes of those marching, the LAPD became an ally of the gay community. When a mobile signboard appeared in front of protesters saying “Please move the right. We’ll be moving shortly,” they laughed at how quickly a tense stand-off had turn to mutual cooperation. When another group marched from downtown LA to Hollywood on the National Day of Impact, the exhausted group of protesters blocking the intersection of Hollywood & Highland thanked the LAPD for escorting them and broke into a sustained applause for LA’s finest.

Pam’s House Blend:: Echoes From A Birmingham Jail (Part One)

January 1st, 2009 [Civil Rights, General]

Pam’s House Blend:: Echoes From A Birmingham Jail (Part One).

To me, a Black Gay man who has endured both racism and heterosexism, and who sees no difference in the kind of discrimination they generate, this debate has always sounded silly. That said, I find it outrageous that some anti-segregation veterans would argue that Black folk have an exclusive claim to the term Civil Rights, and that no other movement dare use it. Excuse me? Have these folks never heard of the Women’s Rights movement? The Farmworkers’ movement? The Disabled Rights movement? I don’t recall hearing any objections to those groups using the language. I find it even more outrageous that some idiotic Lesbian and Gay pundits lend this argument credence.
